Apple MacBook Pro Core Duo 1.67 15″ (2006)

An Icon of Mobile Computing

The powerhouse 15″ MacBook Pro line of laptops is the first of Apple’s notebooks to employ Intel processors and has become an icon of mobile computing.

Though dated compared to the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display, this model features an optical disc drive and is far more configurable compared to the Retina models’ “sealed” design. This not only amounts to more options for upgrades, but far cheaper repairs as well.

With a blazing fast processor, more RAM than the average user will ever need, and space for massive hard drive configurations, the MacBook Pro 15″ is the perfect mobile platform for professionals and casual users alike.

Similar to the PowerBook G4 15″ that preceded it, this model has the same fiber-optic-based ambient light sensor that adjusts keyboard illumination and screen brightness, yet the user will welcome several enhancements.

The 15″ MacBook Pro is a truly versatile design — perfect for a home office or workstation, for professionals on the go, or for casual users with a need for computing excellence. It doesn’t stop there! The MacBook Pro is employed heavily by designers, photographers, developers, and lovers of creative projects in general.

The Apple MacBook Pro Core Duo 1.67 15-Inch features a 1.67 GHz Core Duo processor (L2400), with two independent processor cores on one silicon chip, a 2 MB shared on chip level 2 cache, a 667 MHz frontside bus, 512 MB of 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM (PC2-5300), an 80.0 GB hard drive with Sudden Motion Sensor technology, and a 4X single-layer DVD±RW/CD-RW SuperDrive. It also includes an ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics processor with 128 MB of GDDR3 video memory and dual-link DVI functionality, and a vibrant 15.4″ widescreen TFT active-matrix display (1440×900 native) that Apple states is 67% brighter than the display provided by its predecessor.

This model has the same fiber-optic-based ambient light sensor that adjusts keyboard illumination and screen brightness, two USB 2.0 ports, the same scrolling TrackPad, and the same AirPort Extreme (802.11g), Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, Gigabit Ethernet, FireWire 400 port, optical digital audio in/out, and DVI out.

The MacBook Pro models drop the Firewire 800 and S-video out ports provided by the PowerBook G4/1.67 15″ (HR), substitute a new ExpressCard/34 expansion slot for the standard Type I/II PC card slot, and drop the internal modem. The MacBook Pro also includes a built-in iSight video camera, an Apple Remote for use with Apple Front Row, and a new MagSafe power connector that safely disconnects if someone trips over the cord.
